Starting Your Journey To Becoming Fitter
The journey to becoming fitter may seem long and tiring at the beginning. You will come to different bridges, hills, turnings and roundabouts all the time. The bridges aren’t too bad… You have had a hard day at work, all you want to do is go home, stick your feet up and watch coronation street with a nice cold can of beer or glass of wine.. But in the back of your mind your thinking “I should really go to the gym but I can’t be bothered” so eventually you drag yourself to the gym even though you can’t be bothered. You start the workout and actually begin to enjoy it! Once you have finished (even if it wasn’t a great workout) you feel great from it because you could have been lazy and not bothered, but instead you decided to overcome that small bridge and get to the other side!
The Results Are Worth The Wait
The hills are horrible, long and annoying! There is not one client I have that hasn’t experienced this. You start your journey to becoming fitter at the bottom of a small hill and within the first 3-6 weeks you see amazing results straight away, then after this things seem to slow down. This hill suddenly begins to get steeper and steeper every time you reach a new goal.
Eventually it gets to the point where you feel that you are not making any changes and it is impossible to change any more than you already have.
Persistence Is Key
When climbing a hill, the only way to get over it is by continuing on in the same direction striving for the top. You will get there eventually, it just takes time and patience. There are ways to speed this up in terms of fitness. I can always advice you on the best foods, supplements and new styles of training which you can implement into your regime. Just ask!
Create A Plan
The next point of your journey to becoming fitter will take you down the long winding road of nutrition and you come to a T junction (you know where I am going with this!). One way is what is prescribed in your fitness plan set by yours truly, the other can be a number of things:
- Peer pressure from friends asking you to drink or eat absolute crap
- You’re home late from work, can’t be bothered cooking so you get a take away
- You’ve at the supermarket and you see that amazing chocolate fudge cake in the corner of your eye and just have to grab it… It’s on offer after all!
How can we block these urges?
Peer pressure is a horrible thing to go through. One way I look at it is, at the end of the day, if you aren’t strong willed enough to say no to your friends, you aren’t strong willed enough to change your body. Your friends and family will understand if you explain to them what you are going through. You are paying for a service from a fitness professional or a gym membership, if you do not follow what has been given to you, your throwing money and valuable life lessons away!
Getting home from work late absolutely starving is horrible. Why wait 45 minutes for a takeaway when you can just warm up the food that you prepared the day before?!? If you do not already prepare your food you need to start! This is the best thing you can EVER do to help you through your journey to becoming fitter. It saves time, ensures you are eating correctly and stops you from even thinking about cheating. The saying “failure to prepare is preparing to fail” comes to mind.
Prepare a List
Supermarkets are great at catching your eye with great deals on crappy sugary food. I don’t blame you at all for have a quick peak down the desert isle as the layout of the supermarket will most likely take you that way to entice you into buying more rubbish than you need! A few ways to stop you from buying things don’t need is to create a shopping list and stick to it! If you also go shopping on a full stomach you will not crave as much rubbish as usual and just stick to buying what you need rather than what you want.
Lastly roundabouts. We have all been there at some point in life, not just in the gym but also our everyday routine. Wake up, go to work, come home, eat, go to bed, REPEAT. The same boring cycle can happen in the gym. Get there, do the same boring workout, feel rubbish after it because you are used to the exercises, go home feeling like you have only gone the gym for the sake of it.
There is nothing worse! Exercise can and should be fun. It’s very rare (hopefully it has never happened before) that a workout with any PT is boring. That’s because we switch things up and keep things interesting. You have a plan that you take with you to the gym which is perfectly fine. It doesn’t mean you cannot deviate from this every so often or even ask for a new plan because you find it boring. We will not take offence to this (much) because I have been in the same situation before! Get out of the boring routine and enjoy working out!
Get the right equipment
If you aren’t at gym, you need the right equipment! Items you should be looking for is a Squat Rack, a Bench, and at least some dumbbells. With these three simple items you can turn a dusty old garage into your dream home gym. All it takes is just a few clicks of our website. Remember saving space is key, so try to buy equipment that can do a number of things. Free weights are always a great go to piece of kit as the exercises you can perform are limitless.
Ask For Help
Remember we are always here to help each and every one of you. You should never hesitate to ask us a question. Even if you think it is a stupid one, chances are it is. Although it will still be relevant to you. We will make sure we get back to you as soon as we can to settle anything you need.
This picture sums it up perfectly. In order to change, you have to go through suffering to get what you want. Your body is the marble, the decisions you make can be your hammer. Hammer away at those goals and you will get the body you want!
Keep on smashing the gym, your home fitness and your nutrition too. I believe that everyone can change, sometimes they just need a push in the right direction.
